Why do you need a settlement support plan?

After you are approved to come to Canada either as a Temporary Resident (Student or Worker) or Permanent Resident (PR), you need a settlement plan to settle in Canada comfortably. A settlement plan helps you and your family adapt to your new home.

What do we offer?

At ARNIKA, we assess your needs and assets. This means we will ask about your background, education, language, experience, etc. then, based on your situation, we’ll give you a personalized settlement plan. We will provide you with practical information and referrals to free services in your new community as needed.

Our three programs:

An orientation package covering all aspects of living and working in Canada
Personalized planning focused on your settlement and employment needs, and
Connections to Canadian organizations, providing additional customized guidance and support

How Can We Assist You?

At ARNIKA, we have assisted newcomers (TRs & PRs) in having a relaxing settlement experience to start their new life in Canada. We take care of everything from filing government forms to guiding them through all living and working documents. If you want to discover how we can help you, the first step is to complete the Assessment Form (To detail your personal, educational, and employment information) available on the site. Our services are offered in English, French, and Persian.

The Orientation package covers many topics, including housing, education, health, career, finances, government, culture, and life in Canada. During these sessions, you will learn more about:

Canada (geography, economic overview, government, culture, etc.)
Living in Canada (housing, health, education, finances)
Working in Canada (labour market, credential recognition, and licensure, skills required, job search strategies, work culture)
Becoming Canadian (rights and freedoms, residence, citizenship, cultural norms)
Settlement and employment journey discussion
Set short-term and long-term goals for your new life in Canada
Define what further settlement and employment needs we can help you address
Connect with community services to find out more about the local labour market and newcomer support

By the end of these sessions, you will better understand living in Canada, enabling you to go deeper into your settlement and employment needs during your personalized planning session.

How Can We Assist You?

Personalized planning session

Once you have taken part in the orientation package, you will have four one-hour personalized planning sessions with a Planning for Canada facilitator, who will help you create an action plan for your trip to Canada. With the help of your facilitator, you will:

Settlement planning

We determine and assess your needs, design settlement plans with you to meet your short-term settlement and long-term integration plans, and support and guide you in your plans.

Settlement navigation

We know that settlement processes can be complicated, confusing, and rough. We help by clarifying the steps involved, providing translations, preparing documents, and filling out and submitting forms and applications with you.

Housing, schooling, and employment support

We assist in finding a place for you to live, registering your children for school or daycare, and seeking appropriate employment.

Language support

We register you for language classes and language evaluation programs

Referrals to supportive agencies

We connect you with other resources in the community and in the province to help you get the support you need

Networking and social engagement support

We organize activities to help you meet new people, increase your connection to the community, and learn about topics of interest.

Building a community around newcomers

We work with and help newcomers settle and integrate into the community.

By the end of this session, you will have a customized action plan, and we will ensure that your settlement and employment needs are addressed.

How Can We Assist You?

Following your personalized planning session, you will connect with advisors that will provide you with additional guidance and support before you arrive in Canada. Before you arrive in Canada, the advisors will:

Answer your settlement questions regarding housing, schooling, education, language training, and finances.
Assess your job readiness and employment needs and recommend career pathways, including employer connections when relevant.
Offer guidance for regulated occupations, including licensing process and referrals to regulatory bodies and/or exploring alternative career options.
Help you enroll in online bridging and mentoring programs if recommended.
Provide E-learning tools/modules to help you build or improve your existing skills.
Referrals to local community organizations for the most up-to-date information.

When you arrive in Canada, your settlement and employment questions will be addressed, and you will know the steps you need to take upon arrival. You will also better understand your career pathway, including the next steps and who to reach out to for help.
