Canada Simplify Process For Iranians On Temporary Visas To Stay
Canada is rolling out special temporary measures to make it easier for Iranians in Canada to stay.
The Canadian government stated today that new rules would go into force on March 1 for a year to make it easier for Iranians visitors, students, and workers to extend their stays and transition between temporary streams by requesting new permission from within Canada. Iranians in Canada will also be given access to an open work permit (OWP) pathway. Applications from Iranians living in Canada will also be given special consideration.
In addition, the Canadian government is cancelling some processing fees for Iranians who want to stay longer in the country. It also waives payments for passports and permanent resident travel documents for Canadian citizens and permanent residents who want to leave Iran. Anyone may submit applications for these new facilitative measures beginning on March 1 and up to February 28, 2024.
Beginning on March 1, 2023, more details regarding how to apply for these new measures will be posted on the website of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
Where are Iranian Canadians located in Canada?
Iranian Canadians, sometimes known as Persian Canadians, are either dual nationals of Iran and Canada or Canadian citizens with Iranian ancestry. The main communities are in Southern Ontario, British Columbia, and Quebec, according to the 2016 Canadian census. However, most reside in Vancouver municipalities, such as North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Burnaby, and Coquitlam, and northern Toronto suburbs, like Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Markham, and Thornhill. According to the 2016 Canadian Census, 97,110 Iranians lived in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area), 46,255 in Greater Vancouver, and 23,410 in Montreal Metropolitan Area. The rest were dispersed throughout Canada’s other major cities. These figures indicate those who identified as “Iranians” in the census survey as their exclusive or shared ethnic origin.
How many Iranian come to Canada as Temporary Residents?
Iranian nationals are the sixth most common source of Canadian study permits. 13,525 Iranian students received their first study permits in 2022. Iranians are also the fourth source of Canadian visitor visas. They got 37,083 visitor visas in 2022.
How many Iranian come to Canada as Permanent Residents?
One of the top ten source countries for immigrants to Canada is Iran. According to the most recent IRCC data, Iran was the seventh most common place of origin for immigrants who entered Canada in 2022. 11,105 Iranians arrived as new permanent residents overall the year. After a tough pandemic year, the number of Iranians who received their Canada PR visa returned to pre-pandemic levels. The following graph shows the Canada PR visa population changes for Iranian nationality over the last eight years. (2015-2022):
