Canada Student Visa – Top Tips To Consider Before Apply

Canada Student Visa – Top Tips To Consider Before Apply

To increase your chance of getting a Canada study visa approval, knowing the most critical points to increase visa approval is very important. You should consider how to send the application on time, complete the forms accurately, and prepare a study plan for why you have chosen Canada as your study destination. This article mentions the top tips to consider to get your study visa.

A Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or Canada Visitor Visa is an official record in your passport that indicates airlines allow you to board a plane and Canadian authorities to enter Canada at the port of entry. The TRV shows that you have met the requirements of admission into Canada as a visitor, student, or worker. So, you must apply a TRV application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), which will issue this document before coming to Canada.

Temporary residents Refusals overview:

If an applicant is found to be ineligible, the application will be refused, and the student visa refusal will be made at one of the following times:

  • After examination of a written application, without the candidate having an in-person interview,
  • following an interview with the visa applicant

If it is evident from a review of the application that the applicant is ineligible and more information would not affect a denial decision, the applicant should never be asked to attend an interview.

Ground for Refusal:

Applications may be refused if the foreign national does not meet the obligations of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and its Regulations. The IRCC officer is not satisfied that the foreign national will leave by the end of the period authorized for their stay. Any grounds for inadmissibility according to the Act related to any security, human or international rights violations, criminality, organized crime, health, financial reasons, misrepresentation, non-compliance with the Act and inadmissible family member.

Help You To Get Your Student Visa Approval

These days the Student Visa applications are more than just filling out the forms and showing enough funds to cover your expenses. Accordingly, preparing a solid application from the beginning will place a step forward and strong precedent even to prevent an application from being judicially reviewed. Thus, Arnika Visa recommends seeking legal guidance from an Expert RCIC to have a better chance of successful Canada Student Visa applications.

Applying for a Canada student visa is the most stressful aspect of your plan to study in Canada. A study permit is not a visa and does not allow you to travel to or enter Canada. While some countries are visa-exempt, most international students need a Canada Study permit to pack their bags and board the plane. If accepted, IRCC will issue your visitor visa with your study permit.

Applicants must pay close attention to and adhere to the specific IRCC visa officer requirements; otherwise, they may have difficulty entering Canada in time for their study program. As one of the eligibility requirements of a Canada Student permit, you must prove to an officer that you will leave Canada when your study permit expires.

The IRCC officers issue student visas to those candidates whom they consider genuine and who provide the required supporting documents accordingly. Therefore, it is critical to understand why a student may be refused. Here is a list of the most important tips to remember before applying for a Canada student visa to make it easier.

1-Statement Of Purpose (SOP) for Canada Student Visa

IRCC requires applicants from most countries to submit SOP with their study permit application. Your SOP should be a short essay that explains why you want to study at a specific educational institution in Canada rather than other neighbouring countries that are most likely cheaper, what skills you will learn during your study program in Canada, and finally, your employment plans after your studies in Canada.

Your SoP (Statement of Purpose) is critical in obtaining a Canada student visa. A poorly written SoP will not help you get a visa. On the other hand, a detailed and well-written Statement of Purpose carries a lot of weight when it comes to getting a Canada study permit. You can seek professional assistance from an RCIC but make sure that everything is written in your own words and is highly convincing.

2-Enough Funds for Student Visa to Canada

Education abroad is expensive, and you must make the best of your or your parent’s money. Your ability to finance your studies in Canada plays a significant role when you apply for Canada Study Permit. The expenses such as Tuition fees, living costs for yourself and any dependents, travel expenditures, Visa fees, and other miscellaneous expenses must be considered. Thus, you must efficiently demonstrate you have enough funds to cover them while applying for the Canada Study Visa. Ensure you show substantial funds in your bank account(s) to reflect positively on your Canada student visa application.

3- Ties To Home Country

The applicants who apply for Canada Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs), such as Canada study visas, are viewed as “intending immigrants,” meaning those who want to live permanently in Canada until they can convince the IRCC officers they are not. The international students must, therefore, be able to show that they have stronger reasons for returning to their home countries than reasons for remaining in Canada and that they intend to depart Canada when their authorized stay finishes or after their studies.

“Ties” to your home country bind you to your hometown, homeland, or current place of residence: job, family, financial prospects that you own or will inherit investments, and so on. Of course, each person’s situation is unique, and there is no magic explanation or single document, certificate, or letter guaranteeing Canada student visa issuance. For example, if you have applied for a Canada PR visa and intend to immigrate, you should justify your TRV application. If you have close relatives who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents (Canada PR), it may be more difficult for you to demonstrate that you are not an intending immigrant.

4-Choose the Program that Fits Your Career Plans

If you cannot explain why you want to study in a specific program in Canada, you may not be able to persuade the IRCC officer that you want to study rather than work or stay in Canada permanently. You should also be able to explain how your studies in Canada will help you achieve your career goals and find work when you return home.

5- Be concise

Due to the large number of applications received by IRCC, all visa officers are under significant time constraints to conduct a timely application review. They must decide based on the impressions formed during the first minute or two of their reviews. Your study plan and your first impression of your visa application are critical to your success. Keep your responses to the IRCC’s questions brief and the point, and respond precisely to the questions.

6- Employment Plan

Your main reason for coming to Canada should be to study, not to work before or after graduation. While many students work on or off campus during studying, such employment is secondary/optional to their primary goal of completing their Canadian education institution. You must clearly explain your intention to return home after your study program.

7-Dependents remaining in the home country

If your spouse and children are still in your home country, be prepared to explain how they will support themselves while you are in Canada. This can be especially difficult to explain if you are your family’s primary source of income. If the IRCC officer suspects you intend to support your family with money earned while studying in Canada, your study permit application will almost certainly be refused. If your family decides to join you later, having them apply while you apply for your visa may be helpful, but it is not always necessary. Both scenarios should explain in your Canada student visa application.

8- English or French Language Test Result

If you are a legal resident of some eligible countries, you can apply for a Canada student visa through the Student Direct Stream (SDS). You must meet certain eligibility requirements, including proof of a valid language test result. You may be able to obtain your study permit through the SDS within 20 calendar days. It must be completed within two years of the IRCC receiving the SDS application, demonstrating either an IELTS score of 6.0 or higher in each language skill or a TEF score equivalent to a Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) score of at least 7 in each ability.

If you don’t have the language result or are not a resident of those countries, IRCC will review it as a regular study permit.

9- ESL or FSL study programs

If you want to take English as Second Language (ESL) or French as Second Language (FSL) or prerequisite classes, you must have a conditional letter of acceptance or are taking a prerequisite class or bridging program of at least six months long, your letter of acceptance must identify your class or program as being a prerequisite or bridging program. Your main study program must be a degree, diploma, or certificate.

10- Different Requirements for Different Countries

Applicants from economically troubled countries or countries where many students have remained in Canada as immigrants will face greater difficulty obtaining visas. Statistically, applicants from those countries are more likely to intend to remain in Canada permanently. On the IRCC website, you should review your country’s specific requirements.

11- Supporting documents

The IRCC visa officer should immediately understand what written documents you are presenting and what they mean. Long-written explanations cannot be read or evaluated quickly. Remember that they’ll have 2-3 minutes of review time if you’re lucky. Because supporting documentation will vary depending on your specific situation, it is best to consult the IRCC’s website. However, there are a few supporting documents that all students share, such as financial plan documents, travel purpose documents, letters of acceptance, employment letters, and so on.

12-Hiring an Immigration Consultant (RCIC)

Using the services of an RCIC will make your immigration journey to Canada easier. The RCICs are well-versed in immigration law and can advise you on the courses that will address the IRCC officer’s concerns. This is extremely valuable information that can assist you in selecting the appropriate type of program.

Furthermore, RCICs can assist you in locating the best educational institute that offers the desired programme within your budget. They’ll also be helpful for other important day-to-day information that will come in handy when you arrive overseas.

These days Canada visa applications are more than just filling out the forms and showing enough funds to cover your expenses. Accordingly, preparing a solid application from the beginning will place a step forward and strong precedent even to prevent an application from being judicially reviewed (JR).

These days, in most immigration programs, the Canadian Immigration Authorities (IRCC) do not hold an immigration interview with an applicant (Foreigner national). Instead, the Immigration Officer shall exercise Due Diligence in assessing an application (Verification of Supporting Documents). It means they accept or refuse the visa application after a details examination of the documents, particularly the supporting documents, along with your explanations. Thus, you need to prepare supplementary documents in addition to the immigration forms to obtain the best achievable and favourable result from IRCC Canada.

The IRCC visa officers know when the applications are well-prepared, which means they would follow through all the stages, including Judicial Review (JR) at Federal Court, so they would think twice before making a study permit refusal decision. It has been widespread that ghost consultants file study visa applications, although it is illegal since they have no license. By doing so, you miss the second chance to be accepted at the Federal Court level, as the visa application wasn’t prepared in a way to address all legal IRCC officers’ concerns. Thus, Arnika Visa recommends seeking legal guidance from an Expert RCIC to have a better chance of successful visa applications.

Hi, I need help with my brother’s student visa application to come and study. I’ve been PR here in Canada for almost ten years. I am married with two children. I applied for my brother’s visitor visa three times (I used 1 GCKey application and two new IRCC portals), but all got refused. He is a business owner with enough financial proof to support his travel; he submitted assets like house titles, cars and motorcycles. I provided him with my invitation letter, bank statement for three months, PR IDs, Payslip for three months, T4 for 2022, marriage certificate and birth certificate. The reason for refusal on the third time was the IRCC officer wanted to be more satisfied that he would leave Canada at the end of his stay (study). Also, the other family ties were not cleared even though I submitted my two siblings’ birth certificates. I’m so anxious to apply for the fourth time because I don’t want my brother to get refused again. Plus, I want him to come and visit here with us to support him emotionally for the recent passing of my father. Please let me know if I’m missing some documents that could help him to get approval. Thanks

Consider including a detailed itinerary of his visit and a letter from his business indicating his leave. Attach proof of strong ties to his home country, like business ownership documents, community ties, social ties, etc. Finally, consider an expert RCIC’s advice on the refused application to find the real reason for his refusal and how to justify it in his next study permit visa application.

I was rejected three times for a study visa, and now we only have the last refusal letter; my applications are with the student recruitment agency. Is there anything that can be done to solve this rejection?

With your latest refusal letter, we strongly suggest a thorough assess the reasons for the refusal with an RCIC who is an expert on rejection. They may consider a strategic resubmission, address any issues raised, or explore appeal options if applicable. They can find the most effective path forward for your case.
